Emma Yong, who is one-third of the cabaret trio Dim Sum Dollies, has pulled out of Crazy Christmas, an annual Yuletide revue, two days before the show opens.
This is because she is undergoing a new and stronger cycle of chemotherapy after she suffered a relapse of stomach cancer.
The show will still go on, with radio deejay and actress Denise Tan standing in for Yong. Crazy Christmas, which also stars Kumar and Sebastian ‘Broadway Beng’ Tan, opens at the Esplanade Theatre tomorrow. Yong, 34, who is one of the top musical theatre actresses in Singapore, had been diagnosed with Stage 4 stomach cancer in January this year.
But she responded well to her first course of chemotherapy and her tumours eventually became undetectable. By July, she was well enough to perform in Dream Academy’s production of the Stephen Sondheim musical, Into The Woods.
